Event Description: Make Your Own Rain Barrel Workshop led by Alexandra Cavagrotti, Americorp Watershed Ambassador Did you know that during a 1 inch rainstorm, 623 gallons of water will run off a 1000 square-foot roof? Wouldn’t it be great to harvest some of that water and use it for our flowers or to wash our cars instead of using precious drinking water? Storm water moves over the developed landscape over rooftops, down driveways and into the streets - and then to storm drains that connect to the local stream or river. This creates problems such as flash-flooding, erosion and transportation of harmful pollutants into the waterways. Rain barrels are part of the solution! They allow some of that water to be collected and used more slowly, giving it time to seep into the earth and be filtered naturally. Also, the water can be substituted to lessen the amount of potable water used in the home. For ages 16 and over. When Saturday, March 4th, 2017. (1:30pm to 3:30pm.) Where Scherman-Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary, 11 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ 07924 Cost per barrel & Registration $20 per rain barrel.
