Event Description: NJ Audubon: Troy Meadows, Lake Parsippany Field Trip led by Dave Oster, NJ Audubon Associate Naturalist Troy Meadows is a large freshwater wetland in eastern Morris County. With over 1000 acres of open marsh, winding streams, and wet woodland, Troy can offer great birding in March, as late winter transitions into spring. We will look for lingering winter visitors and early migrants, such as wood duck, red-headed woodpecker, bluebird, rusty blackbird and a variety of sparrows. Several raptor species are possible, including bald eagle. With luck we may encounter a woodcock or snipe. Be prepared for damp to wet trail conditions. Nearby Lake Parsippany is excellent for migrating waterfowl. At least ten duck species occur here regularly, plus loons, grebes and coot. Common Merganser numbers can be especially impressive. We will circle the lake by vehicle, stopping at reliable spots to maximize viewing opportunities and enjoy the birds in their glorious breeding plumage. A scope is helpful but not necessary. When Sunday, March 18, 2018 (8:30am to 12:00pm) Where Please meet at the Algonquin Gas pipeline cut on Troy Meadows Road in Parsippany, off South Beverwyck Road. From Route 80 East, take exit 45 and bear right on South Beverwyck. Proceed about 2/3 mile south and turn left on Troy Meadows Road.
